Hurling

Kilkennyman, Tony Corcoran  played for many years with the Louth Senior hurlers & he & his wife Audrey are responsible for  starting hurling & camogie in the parish with the club’s Junior hurlers competing at adult level for the first time in 2004. The Junior Hurlers won three Junior Hurling Championships, in 2005-2006-2007. The team went Senior in 2008 and have acquitted themselves well in the two seasons since, winning a Special Senior hurling league in 2008.

2009 Senior Hurling Panel

Although 2009 was a disappointing year at Senior level, their was much promise at underage level, in a season which included the Minor team reaching the Championship Final. The highlight of the year however, was possibly the Mattock U8 team being selected to play on the hallowed turf of Croke Park.

This was a great day out for players, mentors and parents alike, as some of Mattock’s most promising young hurlers received an experience they will never forget, and defeated Moorefield of Kildare by 4 goals to 1. They even had the honour of ascending the steps of the Hogan Stand, like so many GAA legends of the past, to lift a trophy to the applause and photography of their proud families and friends.
